Highlight

Compared with other fiscal countries, Hungary uses a very particular and complex type of fiscalization system, whereby a certification-complete solution must be certified. The forint (HUF) is the currency of Hungary.

Fiscal regulation in Hungary is based on the use of fiscal devices, with compliance centered on a certified fiscal printer integrated with a POS application. Both components must be certified prior to use, and the certification is issued by the Hungarian Tax and Customs Office (NAV).

Type of fiscalization: Hardware

Hungary operates a long-established fiscalization system based on certified fiscal printers integrated with POS software, where each transaction is recorded, digitally signed, and transmitted in real time to the tax authority (NAV) via a built-in GSM module. The framework requires certification of the complete solution, strict handling of fiscal memory and electronic journals, mandatory customer displays, predefined receipt layouts, and detailed rules for payments, VAT handling, reports, and daily closing procedures. Recent regulatory developments introduce e-cash registers and e-receipts as a modernized alternative, expanding the system toward hardware-based and cloud-based solutions with centralized storage and enhanced real-time control by the tax authority
