There are two options for the certificates: signature card or online signature (HSM). The Austrian trust service providers (VDA) A-Trust, GlobalTrust and PrimeSign are responsible for issuing the certificates. Regardless of whether you sign with a signature card or with an online solution, the certificate must first be registered via FinanzOnline.
If the retailer has no contract with the signature provider and the receipts are printed out with the note "Signature unit failed" (Signatureinheit ausgefallen), a new certificate must be registered within 48 hours; otherwise, the failure of the signature creation unit must be reported to FinanzOnline.
