A new legislative proposal introduced in the Romanian Parliament aims to implement certain stricter regulations for supermarkets. The proposed draft law suggests closing supermarkets not only on Sundays but also relocating them at least 5 kilometers outside of cities. The draft law also includes a clear definition of supermarkets as self-service retail units offering a wide range of food and non-food products with a minimum area of 800 square meters.

Additionally, the proposal suggests that supermarkets should operate from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., and remain closed on Sundays. The bill also emphasizes the obligation of supermarkets to provide separate areas for Romanian producers to sell their products and to facilitate contracts with Romanian products through specialized offices.

It is important to note that this legislative proposal regarding the closure and relocation of supermarkets in Romania is still in the consideration stage and has not been officially accepted. While it is likely to have some outcome similar to the proposal, the final decision still has not been confirmed by the representatives in Parliament, so it is considered a possibility so far.
