A new postponement of the cash register and POS terminal interconnection in Greece

New delays and postponements are expected to occur in the implementation of AADE's plan, which foresees the interconnection of over 400,000 cash registers and other tax mechanisms to enable a closed circuit for card payments in Greece. The timetable for the implementation of the plan, which includes the upgrade of the existing 400,000 cash registers as well as the replacement of another 140,000 fiscal electronic mechanisms of EAFDSS type with new closed-type FIM that will be inviolable, is postponed at least 3–4 months later. The interface will be delayed even further since the companies that provide POS are not yet ready to implement it.

According to the timetable announced in the spring of 2023 by the Ministry of Finance and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), the upgrade of the 400,000 cash registers was scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2023 for businesses with an annual turnover of up to 100,000 euros and by the end of July 2023 for businesses with an annual turnover of more than 100,000 euros.

The new revised and updated timetable foresees that the upgrade of all cash registers will be completed by the end of October this year. As for the interconnection, given the current unpreparedness of POS providers and somewhat later announcements, its completion is currently postponed to the end of 2023.
