The obligatory components of a certified POS System in Belgium
The cash register is the device that records the sales information, prints the receipts, and stores the data in the FDM. It can be purchased from any authorized vendor, but it must have valid approval of certification from FPS Finance that proves its compliance with the technical requirements.
The fiscal data module (FDM) is the device that encrypts and stores the sales data from the cash register. It also communicates with the VSC to sign each transaction with a unique code. It can be purchased from any authorized vendor, but this element must also be certified by FPS Finance, which proves its compliance with the technical requirements.
The VAT signing card (VSC) is the device, or rather, device element, that contains the digital signature of the company and validates each transaction with the FDM. It is issued by FPS Finance for free in order for the complete POS system to be able to work properly. The VSC must be inserted in the fiscal data module for the POS system to work properly.
