The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina may ban Sunday trading by the end of 2023.
Summary
The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina plans to consider and possibly adopt legal changes that would make it mandatory to close sales facilities on Sundays later this year. A ban of this sort currently does not exist in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
However, changes to the law are being prepared in the Federation of BiH, under which Sundays could become non-working days for traders in the Federation of BiH. Future amendments to the law, whose consideration for possible adoption is reserved for the autumn of this year, will largely be copied from neighboring Croatia, with one difference based on the current proposal, which is that in Bosnia and Herzegovina, all Sundays of the year could be defined as non-working if the proposal gets accepted.

Based on information from the Ministry of Trade in this country, the rules would, of course, entail certain exceptions and bear in mind the specifics of certain types of traders. For example, certain shops, such as souvenir shops, bakeries, gas stations, pharmacies on duty, and the like, could possibly be excluded, but the precise proposed changes are not yet finalized, so this could change. The catering industry, it seems, will probably bypass the bans on work that come with this change, but this is yet to be confirmed in the upcoming period before the proposal of banning work on Sundays gets into the Parliamentary procedure.
