The National Revenue Agency, as the main body for VAT and fiscalization in general, stated that it will start an inspection, in terms of control, of the various commercial establishments in the capital and across the country. The purpose of the control actions is to establish whether the tax and insurance legislation is being complied with, as well as whether the regime of mandatory preliminary declaration of goods with a high fiscal risk, which came into force on January 3, 2024, is being applied. The checks are carried out jointly with the agencies "Customs" and BBAH.

From the statistics, from the beginning of the year until January 9, the NRA's electronic system issued nearly 5,200 unique numbers to carriers who complied with the requirements and submitted information to the revenue agency for the transportation of goods with a high fiscal risk. After an analysis of the declared data, the NRA gradually checks various commercial establishments—large food chains, gas stations, etc.—on the territory of the whole country. Fiscal inspectors monitor the sale of goods with a high fiscal risk, such as meat, milk, fruit, vegetables, oil, sugar, fuels, etc., in connection with the implementation of the mandatory advance declaration, which is effective January 3.

"The checks are regular, and there is nothing unusual or tendentious about them. They are not targeted at specific companies. Within its powers, the NRA carries out control actions in order to establish whether the tax and insurance legislation and the introduced new regime for advance declaration are being complied with," said Rumen Spetsov, executive director of the NRA.
