VAT rates update-Alava (Basque region)
Summary
Recently, Fiscal Decree 2/2024 was approved in Álava to align tax regulations with VAT changes. It is in force from the end of October. The Decree aims to adapt the tax regulations of Álava to the modifications introduced by Royal Decree-Law 4/2024, of June 26, in relation to the Value Added Tax (VAT). These changes are linked to the urgent fiscal measures adopted to address the economic consequences of the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Temporary increase in VAT:
- From October 1 to December 31, 2024:
- VAT rises to 7.5% for seed oils and pasta.
- VAT rises to 2% for the basic foodstuffs mentioned.
Also, from 1 January 2025, olive oil will permanently be subject to the super-reduced 4% VAT rate, classifying it as a basic food.
