Bulgaria extends Taxi Fare currency deadline to October 2025.

Bulgaria has extended the deadline for displaying taxi fares in both leva and euros to October 30, 2025, due to industry concerns over updating more than 20,000 taxi meters before the original August 8 deadline. This extension supports Bulgaria’s broader euro adoption plan for January 2026, with new fare stickers and regulatory updates under public consultation.

The Bulgarian government has extended the deadline for taxi fares to be shown in both leva and euros until October 30, 2025. This change comes after concerns from manufacturers and taxi operators who said updating over 20,000 taxi meters in time for the original August 8 deadline was not possible. As a reminder, Euro will be accepted as official currency from January 2026—with the requirements that we presented previously.

As part of the transition, the Ministry of Transport is launching public consultations on updates to Regulation No. 34. One proposed change is the use of new stickers showing prices in both currencies, set to be introduced by October 8, 2025.

The dual-currency display requirement is part of Bulgaria’s wider plan to adopt the euro. Officials say the move will support transparency and improve readiness across various sectors, especially transportation. The full amendment package was submitted to the National Assembly for approval before August 8, and the Ministry of Transport confirmed the extension in a recent statement.
