Bulgaria is preparing for its official transition to the euro on January 1, 2026, by offering euro coin starter packs to citizens and businesses starting this December, according to several banking institutions.

These pre-packaged sets will contain Bulgarian euro coins, and for businesses, possibly banknotes as well. The packs will be sold at their lev equivalent, helping the public get familiar with the new currency before it becomes official.

Individual packs: price: 20 leva, contents: euro coins worth €10.23, limit: up to 2 packs per person per transaction

Business packs: price: 200 leva, euro cash worth €102.30. No purchase limit

The exchange rate used is the fixed rate of 1.95583 leva per euro.

Starting in November, businesses will also be able to access larger amounts of euro coins and notes through a “top-up” pre-supply arrangement, which requires signing a contract in advance. This early distribution aims to ease the transition to the euro and reduce pressure on ATMs and currency exchange offices after the switch.
