Republic of Srpska Drafts New Consumer Protection Law
The draft law significantly improves consumer protection by guaranteeing their rights in all transactions involving goods and services. It emphasizes the protection of life, health, and safety, mandates fair commercial conduct, and defines clear rules on product sales, labelling, liability, and warranties.
It also addresses unfair business practices and contract terms, including those in distance and off-premises sales, and introduces specific provisions for tourist packages, timeshare arrangements, and electronic payment instruments. Moreover, it establishes the framework for consumer protection bodies, supervisory mechanisms, and penalty provisions to ensure effective enforcement.
By modernizing and consolidating consumer rights regulation, this draft law aligns Republic of Srpska with European consumer protection standards and reinforces trust between consumers and businesses, fostering a safer and more transparent market environment
