Draft of the Law on Introduction of the Euro as the Official Currency in the Republic of Croatia presented

The main principles of the Law are:
- the principle of consumer protection,
- the principle of prohibition of unjustified price increases,
- the principle of continuity of legal instruments,
- the principle of efficiency and economy and
- the principle of transparency and information.
Consumer protection is especially important in terms of protection against unjustified price increases.
Legislative activities include more than 70 legislative proposals that the Government will send to the Croatian Parliament for adoption this year, and they are related to the introduction of the euro - meeting the criteria, preparing the economy, and preparing for the technical and physical replacement of the kuna by the euro.
Furthermore, the plan is to display prices in both euros and kunas from the beginning of September this year so that the process of increasing of sensibility of the citizens to the euro can begin before it is officially introduced. Furthermore, in order to make it easier for citizens to calculate prices from kuna to euro, they will be displayed in both currencies for another year after the introduction of the euro.
This introduction of the euro will also mean that from the moment the euro is officially introduced, everything in kuna in banks will automatically be converted into euros.
The main goal is that adjustment goes smoothly and continuously and to enable the efficient functioning of the economy, that citizens, as well as the economy and all state systems, are informed in time, and that Croatia's expected entry into the Eurozone on January 1, 2023, is performed in a correct and proper manner.
In the end, it is important to state that at this point there is only a Draft of the mentioned Law and that the Law itself is expected to be adopted and into force by the end of April 2022.
