Is a deposit system for collecting packaging waste to be established in Slovenia?
Additionally, by 2025, each EU Member States will also have to ensure that bottles contain at least 25% recycled PET. However, by 2030, bottles will need to contain at least 30 % recycled PET. Twelve European countries have a deposit system, and in practice, this system means that the consumer when buying a drink for bottles or cans pays a certain amount, that is a deposit. This would be returned to the consumer when the packaging is returned to the collection point. Furthermore, this would ensure a better separate collection of beverage bottles and it would be easier to control which bottles are for reuse and which are for recycling.
Countries that have this system are Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Slovakia introduced this system at the beginning of this year, and Latvia at the beginning of February. By 2025, the deposit system is expected to be used by 26 European countries.
In the end, it is necessary to state that this system exists in Slovenia for returnable glass packaging.
