This change of limit in contactless operations without entering a PIN of up to 50 euros will be introduced in practice gradually and will start on June 1, 2022. However, it will depend on how quickly individual POS terminals will be upgraded.
Regardless of the fact that the payment limit will be higher, and the PIN code will have to be entered when confirming contactless payments over 50 euros, there will be cases when it is needed to enter the PIN for contactless payments below 50 euros. The Association of Slovenian Banks explained that this will be the case when such a request is made by an individual POS terminal.
In order to ensure additional security in the contactless use of cards, some banks or savings banks have already set an additional limit for cards when introducing contactless cards. This is an additional security or a common limit for contactless transactions without entering a PIN number.
