Unlike the regular domestic sales and purchases transactions, Intra-Community transactions refer to the commercial transaction between different European Union (EU) countries. These transactions may involve parties that are established in different EU countries, in the case of services or the movement of goods from one EU country to another. There are a couple of different types of Intra-Community transactions:

  1. Intra-Community supplies of goods – the physical movement of the goods sold to another EU country;
  2. Intra-Community acquisitions of goods - the other side of the above transaction, where the goods purchased are transported from a different European Union country;
  3. Intra-Community supplies of services – a business provides service to other EU countries;
  4. Intra-Community acquisitions of services - the side of the above transaction, where a business receives services from a supplier in another EU county.
