Tax inspectors are actively performing and have obtained over 130 million euros from audits on the cryptocurrency trade The Tax fraud inspectors have performed many checks and obtained around 131 million euros from cryptocurrency trading. ANAF adapts to the evolution of technology and financial market trends and verifies revenues from cryptocurrency trading. Thus, the inspectors from the General Directorate for Fiscal Antifraud, within ANAF, initiated controls for verification of revenues obtained in the period 2016-2021 from trading cryptocurrencies through various decentralized platforms, as well as Binance, KuCoin, Maiar, BitMart, FTX and many others.

In the first stage, revenues of over 131 million euros were identified by 63 Romanian citizens. So far, DGAF inspectors have identified approx. 48.67 million euros were omitted from the declaration, in part or in full.
To date, decisions have been issued to recover undeclared tax obligations tax for a total amount of approximately 2.10 million euros. It should be mentioned that, in the same measure, revenues of close to 15 million euros were obtained from the trading of cryptocurrencies, which were declared in full, for which income tax and contributions were paid social afferent.
Tax fraud inspectors will continue to verify revenue from specific activities, such as mining or trading in cryptocurrencies or non-fungible tokens, to ensure increased taxation and voluntary compliance among all categories of taxpayers as a novelty.
Department General Tax Antifraud recommends to all who carry out or intend to start such an activity, to ensure that it declares and pays all tax obligations due to the state budget regularly.
