Decision on the announcement of the introduction of the euro as the official currency in the Republic of Croatia

The Decision to Announce the Introduction of the Euro as the Official Currency in the Republic of Croatia (Decision) was published on July 21, 2022, in the Official Gazette no. 85/22, and it entered into force on July 23, 2022. Previously, on July 12, 2022, the Council of the European Union adopted Council Decision (EU) 2022/1211 of July 12, 2022, on the adoption of the euro in Croatia on January 1, 2023, which established that the Republic of Croatia meets all the necessary conditions for the introduction of the euro as an official currency in the Republic of Croatia and that the deviation in favor of the Republic of Croatia from Article 5 of the Treaty on the Accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union from 2012 will cease to be effective as of January 1, 2023.

Also, on July 12, 2022, the Council of the European Union adopted Council Regulation (EU) 2022/1208 of July 12, 2022, amending Regulation (EC) no. 2866/98 regarding the euro conversion rate for Croatia, which established that the conversion rate is set at HRK 7.53450 for one euro.
Whit regards to this Decision and Regulations, the Croatian Government adopted the above-stated Decision where the following is stated:
- The euro will become the official monetary unit and legal tender in the Republic of Croatia on January 1, 2023.
- The fixed conversion rate is set at HRK 7.53450 for one euro.
- The dual circulation period is the period from January 1, 2023, at 00:00 hours to January 14, 2023, at 24:00 hours.
- The mandatory dual displaying period is the period from September 5, 2022, at 00:00 hours to December 31, 2023, at 24:00 hours.
