AADE's plan to interconnect cash registers with card payment solutions in Greece gains momentum

The plan to interconnect cash registers with card payment systems is in full swing, and is based on two pillars: first, obligation, as by the end of July 400,000 businesses should have interconnected their cash registers with POS; and second, subsidies, as financing vouchers begin to be issued.

As he said, during a press conference held recently, the Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras, following the recent legislative regulations on the interconnection of POS with AADE, the timetable of the next actions concerns:

• The technical preparation of manufacturers of Fiscal Electronic Mechanisms (FIM) and POS card systems for software upgrades and approval of software by AADE.
• The mandatory interconnection of 400,000 FIM with card payment systems.
• The issuance of a Joint Ministerial Decision for the mandatory withdrawal of old mechanisms that cannot be upgraded as needed.
• The production of new types of Fiscal Electronic Mechanisms by manufacturers.
• The submission of applications to the Information Society for funding vouchers for the interconnection, took place over 2 cycles.

Elaborating on the above actions, the governor of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), George Pitsilis, noted that roughly by May the technical preparation of tax mechanisms and POS (card payment device) manufacturers for upgrade software, as well as the approval of these software by AADE, will be completed.

At the same time, the first round of applications to the Information Society (IS) for the funding vouchers for the interconnection under the relevant program funded by the Recovery Fund will have opened by May 15, while the second cycle will have been implemented by June 30.
