The Slovenian government proposed support for the ViDA reform

Slovenia recently introduced new e-invoicing rules that mandate all businesses utilize a uniform e-invoice format. The new rule is a component of Slovenia's attempts to prevent tax fraud and ensure more openness in commercial dealings.

All businesses are required to utilize the eSLOG 2.0 standard e-invoice format under the new rule. The format is based on the European standard EN 16931, and it is anticipated to reduce the administrative complexity associated with paper invoices while streamlining the e-invoicing process for businesses.

All electronic invoices must also be kept in a specific archive and made available to tax officials upon request, according to the legislation. Fines or other penalties may apply if you don't follow the new rules.

The new electronic invoicing rules in Slovenia will be implemented in two stages. Beginning on January 1, 2023, the eSLOG 2.0 format must be used by all governmental entities and large businesses. The eSLOG 2.0 format must be used by all businesses, regardless of size, as of July 1st, 2023, which marks the start of the second phase.

Businesses will benefit greatly from the new legislation, including quicker payment processing and lower expenses related to paper-based invoicing. Additionally, it will improve corporate transaction transparency and aid in the fight against tax fraud.

Companies doing business in Slovenia are urged to make any necessary adjustments to their invoicing systems and make sure their e-invoicing procedures adhere to the new rules to prevent penalties.
