In 2017, Norway enacted the Cash Register Systems Act, which introduced a software type of fiscalization in Norway. Software fiscalization means that there are no specific requirements regarding the hardware used in stores or specific technical solutions. More details are as follows.

The aforementioned law and accompanying bylaws prescribe the mandatory functionalities of the POS system as well as functions that the system must not have. Aside from the obligatory POS functions, every system used to process sales transactions must possess a declaration of conformity. This declaration confirms that the system is compliant with Norwegian regulations and is issued by the Norwegian Tax Authority.
