The online price monitoring system has been launched in Hungary

Hungarian consumers can now compare the prices of basic foodstuffs online, thanks to a new system launched by the Economic Competition Authority of Hungary (GVH) in July 2023. The system, available at árfigyelo.gvh.hu, monitors the prices of more than 60 products in six product categories, such as dairy, meat, vegetables, fruit, bread, and preserved foods. The products are sold by six major retail chains in 1,200 stores across the country.

The aim of the system is to increase consumer protection and competition in the retail sector by providing transparent and up-to-date information on the selling prices of essential goods. Consumers can use the system to make more informed decisions when shopping, and retailers can use it to compete for customers by offering lower prices or better quality. The system also helps the GVH detect and prevent possible cartels or unfair practices in the market.

The system is updated daily and allows users to search for products by name, category, store, or location. Users can also view historical price trends and compare prices between different stores or regions.
