The reduction of VAT rates has been introduced in the past few years to help the whole retail sector and citizens with the crises that happened in Europe. But at the beginning of 2024, VAT rates have been updated in terms of which rate will be applied to certain categories of products and how long they will last.

More precisely, in Bulgaria, the following sectors and articles continue to use the decreased VAT of 9%:
- Restaurants and catering businesses (home delivery included)—until December 31, 2024;
- Tourism (complex service including hotel accommodation)—until June 30, 2024;
- Use of sports facilities, until June 30, 2024;
- Bread and flour—until June 30, 2024.
