According to the adjustment, the penalty in case of non-compliance will apply from October 1, 2024, to economic operators who make supplies of goods or services through commercial vending machines operating on the basis of card payments, as well as acceptors of banknotes or coins, as the case may be, for equipping their vending machines with the required cash registers.

The currently defined fine for non-compliance with the legal deadlines to use cash registers is between 8,000 and 10,000 lei. This means that if a company in Romania does not use electronic cash registers for vending machines by the legal deadline, it can face a penalty of 8,000 to 10,000 lei (about 1,600 to 2,000 euros), as well as the seizure of any money that cannot be justified and the temporary closure of its business until it installs the necessary equipment and pays the fine (if fined).
