Further details on the obligation to display a sign indicating support for card payments in Greece
Businesses failing to comply will face a fine of 1,000 euros or more, which can be reduced by half if paid within 30 days (or 60 days if imposed by the AADE). The AADE will conduct checks to ensure compliance.
A special provision submitted to Parliament provides that the Minister of National Economy and Finance will define a specific list of businesses or professional categories that should bear a special sign that they accept payments by POS, indicating a complaint phone for those who neglect obligations regarding this matter.
Once the provision is passed, a relevant ministerial decision will be issued that will reportedly oblige, in the first stage, taxis, vendors in street markets, and some tourist businesses to carry the special sign along with the telephone number where customers can file complaints about any irregularities they find. The list will possibly be expanded in the further months, as the AADE starts using this measure in practice.
