Is price locking in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina a temporary relief or a more long-term solution?

The price-locking initiative in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which began on December 15 last year, aims to stabilize the cost of essential food and hygiene products. This measure, proposed by employers in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Trade, currently targets 56 items to improve the quality of life for citizens. The fourth round of price locking started on October 1 and will continue until the end of the year. Products such as eggs, children's diapers, gluten-free flour, and bread have seen significant price reductions. The initiative is expected to save citizens around 50 marks per round of consumption.

However, it is not a mandatory measure for traders (they can opt to participate), and there are concerns that it cannot be a permanent solution. For long-term relief, the Consumers' Association recommends more comprehensive measures like tax reforms and local community initiatives. Given the ongoing economic instability both locally and globally, experts believe that permanent price stabilization is unlikely in the near future. The project involves over 30 commercial entities, with more than 1,500 shops participating in the previous period. As stated in this country, at the end of the year, the effectiveness of the initiative will be evaluated to decide on its continuation or improvement if it is proven useful enough.
