Croatia to Release Updated Price-Limited Consumer Basket Items
Croatia’s economy minister announced on January 9, 2025, that an updated list of items in the consumer basket with price limits may be released next week. He urged consumers to leverage their purchasing power by choosing retailers with competitive prices while avoiding those with excessive pricing.
The minister highlighted that everyday food products, which have seen significant price increases over the past year, will be included in the new list. Conversely, items that are no longer profitable to produce due to regulated prices will be removed.
The minister emphasized that consumers play a crucial role in regulating the market by deciding where to shop. He referenced consumer boycotts in Italy that successfully pressured retailers to adjust their pricing strategies, questioning why similar actions couldn't occur in Croatia. He reiterated that while the state cannot regulate all prices, consumers have the ability to influence the market through their choices.
