Montenegro Tax Inspections Yield Over €1 Million in Fiscalization Fines

Montenegro’s Tax Administration conducted 1,715 inspections between May and July 2025, targeting coastal tourist areas and uncovering widespread violations, issuing over €1.2 million in fines and temporarily closing more than 10 companies. Authorities are emphasizing compliance with fiscalization laws, particularly among accommodation providers, and encouraging citizens to report irregularities.

 

The Tax Administration of Montenegro conducted inspections across Montenegro during the busy summer tourist season, uncovering widespread irregularities and issuing over €1.2 million in fines and temporary closures of more than 10 companies.

From May 1 to July 20, tax inspectors carried out 1,715 inspections, focusing on businesses in coastal municipalities and tourist centres. These checks aimed to enforce fiscal discipline and fight the shadow economy – in fiscalization terms.

Also, the focus of inspection is on accommodation. Irregularities were found in 34 cases, resulting in €67,000 in fines.

The Tax Administration urges all accommodation providers to register their businesses and comply with the Law on Fiscalization- issuing receipts, reporting transactions to the Tax administration, etc.

Citizens are invited to report any suspicious or illegal business practices by calling the Tax Administration’s Call Centre at 19707 or using the "Be Responsible" platform.
