Italy has approved Resolution No. 7-00286, requiring businesses to issue digital receipts for all electronic payments starting in 2027, with phased implementation through 2029. Receipts will be sent via SMS, email, or mobile apps, while paper copies will only be provided upon customer request.

Italy is taking a decisive step toward digital modernization with the approval of Resolution No. 7-00286, marking the beginning of a nationwide transition from paper to electronic receipts. Passed in mid-June 2025, the resolution mandates that businesses issue digital receipts for all transactions made via electronic payment methods.

Under the new system, receipts will be delivered to customers through:

·         SMS

·         Email

·         Mobile apps

Traditional paper receipts will remain available, but only upon explicit customer request.

The rollout will occur in three phases:

·         Jan 2027:-Phase 1: Large-scale businesses

·         Jan 2028-Phase 2: Businesses above a turnover threshold (to be defined)

·         Jan 2029-Phase 3: All other traders
