The receipt lottery in Italy has started

There are prizes of 100,000 EUR to 10 buyers, prizes of 20,000 EUR to 10 merchants. Besides, the competition also rewards taxpayers. There are no penalties when the retailer doesn’t want to participate in the lottery of the receipt.

From February 1st the receipt lottery has started, and the rewards include both consumers and retailers and they compete for the weekly and monthly rewards. The first monthly draw is set for March 11 and will distribute:

• prizes of 100,000 euros to 10 buyers
• prizes of 20,000 to 10 merchants concerning commercial documents transmitted and registered in the Lottery System from 1 to 28 February. It should be emphasized that the competition also rewards taxpayers, namely:
• the store owner
• the single craftsman or self-employed worker
• who sells goods or provides services. The retailer to be able to participate and make the buyer participate in the prize competition, before issuing the receipt, must record the lottery code that the customer shows him, capturing it by the optical reader or typing the alphanumeric code

Penalties for the retailers have been eliminated!

What happens in the situation when the retailer doesn’t want to participate in the lottery of the receipt? What can the customer do, if he would like to participate? The penalties which were initially provided by the Fiscal Decree 2020 have been eliminated. The consumer will therefore be able to report the retailer who blocks in this way the participation in the lottery from March 1, 2021, contributing to the preparation of lists of professionals and businesses at risk of evasion, by which the controls of the Revenue Agency and the Financial Authority will be higher.
