Brazil Updates Payment Method Codes for e-Invoices (NF-e) and Digital Receipts (NFC-e)

Brazil has released Version 1.11 of Technical Report 2024.002, updating the payment methods table used in electronic invoices (NF-e) and digital receipts (NFC-e). The update introduces two new payment codes for automatic PIX payments and TEF bank transfers, clarifies descriptions of existing codes, and requires businesses to update their invoicing systems before the production rollout on May 4, 2026.

Brazil has published Version 1.11 of Technical Report 2024.002, introducing updates to the payment methods table used in electronic invoices (NF-e) and digital receipts (NFC-e). The update includes two new payment method codes and changes to descriptions of existing codes, requiring companies and software providers to update their invoicing systems.

Two new payment method codes will be introduced and become effective on May 4, 2026:

1. Code 23 – Instant Payment (PIX) – Automatic

This code identifies recurring payments made automatically through Pix, based on prior authorization from the customer.

2. Code 24 – TEF “Book Transfer”

This refers to bank transfers between accounts within the same bank, processed through TEF (Electronic Funds Transfer) systems.

The update also clarifies some existing payment methods:

-       Code 18 – TED (Electronic Transfer Available) now clearly states that it refers to transfers between accounts at different banks.

-       Code 20 – Instant Payment (PIX) – Static now specifies that it covers PIX payments made via static QR codes, PIX keys, or bank account details.

Companies issuing e-Invoices (NF-e) and digital receipts (NFC-e) will need to:

-       Add the new payment codes (23 and 24) to their systems.

-       Update the descriptions of existing payment methods.

-       Review integrations with payment systems and electronic funds transfer (TEF).

The update will follow this schedule:

-       Testing environment: April 2, 2026

-       Production environment: May 4, 2026

From these dates, the new payment codes will first be available for testing and later for use in live electronic invoices.
