Bulgarian citizens can exchange levs for euros free of charge at banks and post offices until 30 June 2026, while the Bulgarian National Bank will continue free exchanges without limit or deadline.

As a reminder, Bulgarian citizens have until June 30, 2026 to exchange lev banknotes and coins for euros free of charge at commercial banks and Bulgarian Post offices.

Exchange Rate: Fixed at 1.95583 leva = 1 euro.

Limits:

- For amounts over €5,000, a declaration of origin of funds is required.

-For exchanges above BGN 30,000, a prior application must be submitted.

Free exchange at banks and post offices ends on June 30, 2026. From July 1, 2026, fees may apply.

Banks and post offices may discontinue exchanges 12 months after the euro’s introduction.

After June 30, the Bulgarian National Bank will continue to exchange levs for euros free of charge, in unlimited quantities, and without a time limit.
