Malaysia updates e-invoice (MyInvois) validation rules for monetary amounts and passport identifiers

Malaysia’s Inland Revenue Board has introduced newe-invoice: MyInvois validation rules limiting monetary amount fields to 26 digits and passport numbers to 12 characters. The changes will apply in production from 23 October 2026, when non-compliant submissions may be rejected.

Malaysia’s Inland Revenue Board (HASiL) updated the MyInvois SDK documentation on 6 August 2026, introducing additional technical validation requirements for electronic invoice submissions.

Under the update, monetary amount fields are limited to a maximum length of 26 digits. The restriction applies to several invoice-level fields, including:

• total excluding tax;
• total including tax;
• payable amount;
• discount amounts;
• fee amounts;
• tax amounts; and
• rounding amounts.

The same maximum-length requirement also applies to several monetary fields at invoice line-item level.

In addition, passport identifiers are limited to a maximum of 12 characters.

These validation rules are scheduled to enter the MyInvois production environment on 23 October 2026. From that date, electronic invoices that do not comply with the new amount or passport-number limits may be rejected by MyInvois.

Implementation impact and what businesses should do:

Businesses and software providers using MyInvois should update their ERP, POS, accounting and e-invoicing systems before 23 October 2026.

In particular, they should ensure that monetary fields do not exceed 26 digits and passport identifiers do not exceed 12 characters. Existing validation rules and data mappings should also be reviewed and tested to prevent invoice rejection once the new requirements become active in production.
