Slovakia Confirms Full Technical Readiness for Mandatory E-Invoicing from 2027
Slovakia has completed the technical infrastructure for mandatory e-invoicing from January 1, 2027. Certified digital postmen will transmit eInvoices and automatically report required tax data to the Financial Administration, reducing manual reporting and supporting ViDA-aligned compliance.
Slovakia’s Financial Administration has confirmed that the technical infrastructure for the country’s new electronic invoicing and automated tax reporting system is complete and fully operational, ahead of mandatory implementation from January 1, 2027.
Under the new model, businesses will issue eInvoices through their accounting, invoicing or other business software, while a certified delivery service provider, or “digital postman,” will securely transmit the invoice to the customer. At the same time, the required tax data will be automatically reported to the Financial Administration, which will process the data and send a confirmation back to the digital postman.
This means businesses will not need to manually re-enter or separately submit the same invoice information to the tax authority. The system is designed in line with the EU’s VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) framework and is intended to reduce administrative work, manual errors and duplicate reporting.
Unlike a centralized clearance model, Slovakia’s infrastructure relies on a network of certified digital postmen. According to the Financial Administration, this decentralized structure should improve resilience because a technical or security problem affecting one provider would not stop e-invoicing across the entire country.
Mandatory e-invoicing and related reporting will apply to legally defined domestic transactions from January 1, 2027. From July 1, 2030, digital reporting will also extend to relevant cross-border B2B transactions within the EU. On the same date, Slovakia plans to abolish the existing VAT control statement and recapitulative statement and replace them with automated invoice-data reporting.
Businesses can already use available e-invoicing solutions and select certified digital postmen before the mandatory regime begins.
What should businesses do to prepare for Slovakia’s mandatory e-invoicing from January 1, 2027?
Businesses should verify that their accounting or invoicing software supports the new eInvoice model, select a certified digital postman, test invoice exchange and automated tax-data reporting, and ensure internal systems and processes are ready before the mandatory start date.
