Did you know that there are new deadlines for compulsory usage of e-invoicing in business transactions made between private entities and the public sector? Through Decree-Law No. 14-A/2020, the State defined new dates for companies for the obligatory start of usage of electronic invoices in business operations related to public institutions. For large companies this obligation has already started in January 2021, for small and medium-sized enterprises will start from 1st July 2021, and for micro-companies, it will start from the 1st of January 2022. The exact dates are as follows.

  • January 1, 2021, was the starting date for the mandatory electronic invoicing in public contracts for large companies (companies that meet at least one of these three conditions -above 250 employees, more than €50M in invoicing or €43M in balance) came into force.
  • July 1, 2021, the mandatory electronic invoicing for Small and Medium Enterprises that supply the State comes into force.
  • January 1, 2022, micro-enterprises supplying public entities are required to issue electronic invoices through electronic invoicing software.
