The German Federal Government has announced that penalties for tax evasion and fraud will be more effectively enforced in the future. To that extent, a set of new laws has been introduced to fight tax fraud and stifle the gray economy.

The severity of sanctions will not be changed, but their enforcement will be strengthened with the formation of a new federal agency devoted to following up on the payment of penalties and other sanctions. Furthermore, more frequent audit controls can be expected in 2023.
