Belgium postpones mandatory e-invoicing for public procurement contracts

The Council of Ministers has approved a draft Royal Decree that extends the deadline for mandatory e-invoicing in public procurement contracts for Belgium. The extension will apply to economic operators sending invoices electronically for public procurement contracts with an estimated value of less than 30,000 EUR and more than 3,000 EUR, which will now enter into force on March 1st, 2024, instead of the previously planned deadline. The federal contracting authorities will also impose an e-invoicing mandate for transactions less than 3,000 EUR from March 1, 2024, based on the currently available information. The draft decree aims to give more time for the economic operators and the contracting authorities to adapt to the new system. The draft decree was submitted to the Council of State for consideration.
