A proposed decree, now with the European Commission, would mandate that food retailers in France display notices whenever a product's size is reduced without a corresponding price drop. If adopted, this rule is set to take effect on July 1st. Notices in stores will specify: "This product's quantity has changed from X to Y, resulting in a price increase per kilogram, gram, or liter by X% or X Euros."

The Ministry of Economy was prompted by many consumer complaints to launch an investigation into "shrinkflation,” finding that the practice of reducing product volume has become so prevalent it is morphing into a scam. Hence, the Minister of Economy has proposed a decree to tackle this problem at the level of retailers.

We will keep you informed as soon as the decree mentioned is adopted and published.
