E-invoice rules have been established in Italy. It represents a special system with predefined requirements that must be met, known as the SDI system. The accepted invoice format is FatturaPA, an electronic invoice structured in an XML file. Affixing a certified electronic or digital signature for content integrity and authenticity is important. Also, there are predefined rules and mandatory dates for B2G, B2B, and B2C, and certain rules for different categories of taxpayers.

In relation to that, the new group of taxpayers will have to implement e-invoicing rules—that's flat-rate scheme taxpayers. More precisely, as of January 2024, the exclusion that relates to the turnover from the obligation will be removed, and all taxpayers that adopt the flat rate scheme will need to send invoices electronically via the SDI system.
