Starting September 1st 2026, all POS software providers and retailers operating in France will have to comply with the NF525 certification standard. This new unified deadline replaces the previously phased approach and aligns the certification process with the launch of the country’s e-Invoicing and e-Reporting reform, marking another important milestone in the modernization of the fiscal environment in France.

Certification Challenges for POS Providers

Until now, many companies relied on self-certification to declare that their POS systems were compliant with fiscal rules. This simplified administration but also left room for interpretation and inconsistency.

From 2026 onward, that flexibility disappears.
The French Tax Authorities (DGFIP) have made it clear: only solutions certified by an accredited body - such as Infocert or LNE - will be legally accepted.

This shift represents a major operational and technical challenge for software vendors.

Each POS system must now meet strict standards for:

  • Data integrity – preventing any modification of recorded transactions,
  • Security – ensuring encrypted, traceable data flows,
  • Archiving – preserving fiscal data for the legally required period,
  • Traceability – allowing each transaction to be tracked from start to finish.

The certification process involves detailed testing, documentation reviews, and ongoing monitoring - a resource-intensive task, especially for companies managing multiple software versions or local adaptations.

Unexpected Support Comes from Udemy

Support for this complex certification topic is now coming from an unexpected direction - Udemy.

Traditionally known as a platform for personal learning and professional development, Udemy has been primarily associated with B2C education. Business-focused courses are rare, and those dealing with highly specific areas such as retail technology or fiscalization are almost non-existent.

However, this is starting to change.
Industry experts and fiscalization providers are beginning to use Udemy to make specialized knowledge more accessible to companies. Platforms once designed for individual learning are becoming valuable spaces for business-oriented education, helping retailers and POS software vendors understand regulatory frameworks and prepare for compliance.

One example is Fiscal Solutions, which has already released two courses - one focused on Spain, and a newly launched course dedicated to France.

The latest course, Certification in France provides a structured overview of:

  • the purpose and structure of the NF525 standard,
  • legal obligations for software providers,
  • certification procedures and required documentation,
  • technical requirements such as data integrity and XML format,
  • and common pitfalls companies should avoid during certification.

If this trend continues, Udemy could gradually become a reference point for fiscal education - a space where experts and solution providers share practical knowledge that was previously limited to closed workshops or consultations.

It’s encouraging to see fiscalization topics gaining visibility in such an open format, and hopefully, more providers will contribute with their own materials, strengthening the entire industry through accessible, transparent education.

As more providers embrace this approach, Udemy could become a valuable hub for fiscal and retail-technology knowledge, helping companies navigate regulatory transitions faster and more confidently.
