Portuguese tax authorities have announced an extension for the submission of invoices due to disruptions caused by the April 28 electricity outage, which affected the Iberian Peninsula and parts of southern France. The incident led to a widespread failure of electronic and computer systems, including restricted access to government portals and invoice processing services. Most of the portals are still unavailable or out of service.
Despite efforts to restore functionality, users continue to experience difficulties accessing the invoicing portal. In response to these ongoing issues, officials have extended the deadline for reporting invoices under Article 3 of Decree Law 198 and reporting of SAF-T files, allowing submissions related to April 2025 to be completed without penalties or cancellations until May 7, 2025.
Authorities assure businesses and taxpayers that no fines will be imposed for late submissions within this timeframe and encourage all affected parties to finalize their reports before the revised deadline. The situation will continue to be evaluated, taking into account the progress of work to restore AT's IT systems.
