Germany is currently experiencing a situation where businesses utilizing the One-Stop-Shop (OSS) system have reported receiving payment reminders from other European Union Member States. Despite the German Tax Authorities' communication that there might be a slight delay in payment transfers between Member States and the suspension of automatic notification issuance, some businesses continue to receive these reminders.

The OSS system, introduced as part of the EU's effort to simplify cross-border VAT compliance, allows businesses to declare and pay VAT obligations for supplies of goods and services within the EU through a single electronic portal. However, recent incidents have caused confusion and raised concerns among German businesses utilizing this system.

In response to the issue, the German Tax Authorities are advising taxpayers who receive payment reminder notifications from other EU Member States regarding their VAT liability to first verify with the German Tax Authorities whether the payment has indeed been received by them. Once confirmation is received that the payment has been successfully processed by the German tax authorities, businesses should promptly respond to the notification, informing the relevant Member State of the payment.

Affected businesses need to take the necessary steps to resolve these payment reminder discrepancies promptly. By verifying with the German tax authorities and communicating the payment status to the respective Member States, businesses can ensure the accurate reporting and settlement of their VAT liabilities.

The German Tax Authorities are actively addressing this issue and working towards a resolution to prevent further confusion and unnecessary payment reminders. They are liaising with their counterparts in other EU Member States to resolve any outstanding payment transfer delays and mitigate the impact on businesses utilizing the OSS system.
