In recent months, around 40-50 offshore entities have registered with Indian GST authorities after investigations revealed they were not paying taxes on Online Information and Database Access or Retrieval (OIDAR) supplies. This increase in registrations is expected to boost GST revenue. OIDAR services encompass various online offerings, including cloud services, digital content, online gaming, and online advertising. Under current GST provisions, foreign service providers must register for GST and report their Indian sales while remitting applicable taxes. The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has been actively informing these offshore entities about their tax obligations, as many were previously unaware. Read more
