Danmarks Nationalbank introduced new Danish coins into circulation on December 2, 2025. The updated designs reflect the current monarch, King Frederik X, and continue Denmark’s long tradition of featuring royal symbols on its currency.

The 20-krone and 10-krone coins will display a portrait of the King on the front, while the back will show the shield and crown from the royal coat of arms.

The 5-, 2-, and 1-krone coins will feature the King’s monogram on the front. On the back, they will show the coin value, the word “Danmark”, and a new symbol appearing on Danish coins for the first time.

This new symbol is based on the octagonal shape of Amalienborg Palace Square. The design represents the four palaces surrounding the square and highlights Amalienborg as the center of the Danish Royal House.

Five coin denominations — 20, 10, 5, 2, and 1 krone — have been redesigned. The 50-øre coin will remain unchanged, as it does not include royal symbols.

Although new coins are being introduced, all existing coins will remain legal tender and can continue to be used alongside the new ones.
