Germany and France have announced a new version of the ZUGFeRD e-invoicing format (version 2.5), which will be released on May 20, 2026.

The update is developed jointly by Forum for Electronic Invoicing Germany and FNFE-MPE (a French organisation responsible for e-invoicing standards and digital public procurement).

The main improvement is the introduction of gross invoices (invoices showing total amounts without detailed tax breakdowns), which are required in certain industries such as:

-       book trade,

-       publishing,

-       petroleum sector.

In addition, the update includes the regular (mandatory) alignment with the latest code lists of the EN 16931.

Important:

  1. New ZUGFeRD version (2.5) coming in May 2026,
  2. Introduces gross invoice support,
  3. Maintains compliance with EU e-invoicing standards.
