As Bulgaria prepares to adopt the euro, the National Revenue Agency (NRA) has announced a proactive campaign to monitor pricing practices across the country. This is all in order to ensure that prices for goods and services remain fair, transparent, and grounded in real market conditions during the currency transition.

Speaking at a public meeting in Blagoevgrad, part of the national information campaign on the euro’s introduction, NRA Executive Director Rumen Spetsov emphasised that while market speculation is inevitable, pricing must reflect genuine economic factors such as rent, energy costs, wages, labour, and global commodity prices.

The NRA will collaborate with the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) to conduct inspections and prevent price manipulation. Although the CPC’s new leadership is still pending, joint efforts are expected to begin soon.

As a reminder, the first month of dual circulation—when both levs and euros will be accepted—could pose challenges, particularly in payment processing and giving change. However, he expressed confidence that these issues will be mitigated through widespread public education.

The NRA has already updated its electronic systems to ensure uninterrupted access to tax declarations, banking operations, and other administrative services during the transition.

Citizens are encouraged to consult official institutional sources for accurate information. The NRA has published materials addressing frequently asked questions and outlining the euro transition process in detail.
